Misool Resort’s Secluded South Beach
| Snorkel Venture

Misool Resort is quite easily one of our most requested locations for snorkeling adventures by our guests. It’s not hard to understand why when you see the photos of the resort! I’d wager that there is no other resort quite like it in the world with its surreal layout framed by karst limestone cliffs, white sandy beaches, overwater bungalows, jungle villas, and several house reefs teeming with life!  With all of that in mind, I’d like to quickly take the time to highlight one of the lesser-known areas of Misool Resort, its South Beach!

Misool’s North Lagoon offers overwater villas and bungalows, while South Beach offers exquisite beach and jungle villas. The accommodation style for both the North Lagoon and South Beach incorporates what we call a “rustic-luxury” style, which Misool Resort has perfected. The South Beach Villas are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, with several of them incorporating the limestone cliffs into the interior of the rooms. The jungle villas have large wrap-around decks with multiple levels and even a private yoga shala, while the beach villas offer unobstructed views of what could easily be one of the most beautiful beaches you’ve ever seen.

One of the great things about South Beach is its seclusion from the rest of the resort. Not that the North Lagoon is crowded, it’s just that there are only six villas on South Beach, so it feels as if it’s only you on your remote tropical island, but with all the amenities and services of an upscale resort!

To arrive to South Beach, there are two options. The first is to take the “tinnie,” as they call it, which is just a small aluminum boat used to ferry guests on South Beach to and from the North Lagoon. There are radios available on South Beach, so whenever you need to hitch a ride, just jump on the radio and the tinnie will come pick you up, as long as it’s not super low tide.

The other option is a short trek over the hill that separates North Lagoon and South Beach. While the walk does involve a fair number of steps, they are nice paved steps with handrails, and the views along the way will leave you gobsmacked. This walk becomes an integral part of the experience of staying on South Beach and Misool Resort.

Given that staying on South Beach does require a fair amount of effort with the steps to get to and from the area, we don’t recommend staying on South Beach if you aren’t physically up for the walk to and from. However, if a few steps that meander through the jungle with viewpoints of both sides of Misool Resort sound like a pleasant way to start and finish the day, South Beach is for you!

Hey Y'all. I'm Snorkel Venture's Destination Manager and Video and Photo Pro. Prior to joining Snorkel Venture in 2018, I lived and worked all over the world, working as an underwater cameraman, with five of those years spent living/working on a liveaboard in Indonesia. I live and breathe underwater film and photo, and snorkeling is my most preferred method of documenting the beauty of the underwater world! I've been fortunate to have been able to have my work displayed on networks such as Netflix, NatGeo, and the Discovery Channel, while my photos have been on hosted in a number of exhibitions around the world, including the UN Building in New York, the Gasometer in Germany, and the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, along with a handful of magazines.
