The Solomon Islands are a small island nation that has it all from a snorkeler’s perspective- lush islands that are largely undeveloped, seemingly endless shallow coral reefs that host a cornucopia of diverse marine life, and vibrant coastal communities beaming with smiles.

The Solomons consist of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands that are located on the southeastern corner of the Coral Triangle, just northeast of Australia. Given the fact that the Solomon Islands sit within the the global epicenter of biodiversity, the Coral Triangle, you can expect to encounter an overwhelming amount of marine life, from the beautiful little reef fish that dance like glitter suspended in the water column to the larger schooling fish like snappers, jacks, and parrot fish, to the awe-inspiring pelagic species like manta rays, reef sharks, barracuda. With a bit of luck, we’ll also find some of the weird benthic creatures like scorpion fish, signal gobies, and maybe even a seahorse!

Given the Solomons unique geographic location, straddling the border of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific islands, you’ll no doubt see a mixture of both of these underwater worlds. Depending on the exact location, you can expect to see reefs very reminiscent of what you might find around Raja Ampat where hard and soft corals come together to form an carpet of color and texture. At the same time, you’ll also probably notice that many of the reefs share topographic features not to dissimilar from what you might expect to find around Fiji, with crevices and caverns illuminated by piercing beams of light. There are even a couple of wrecks from WWII that we can explore.

As the Solomon Islands are very remote and undeveloped in a tourism sense, there are very few snorkeling/diving operators in the country. However, the Bilikiki Liveaboard is the premier operator in the area and has been running both diving and snorkeling safaris for over 25 years. We have chartered the Bilikiki Liveaboard for the entirety of the trip, which of course means it will be used exclusively for our snorkeling activities.

*Please note that this particular itinerary covers a lot of territories and therefore involves several overnight crossings between regions where we will be in the open sea and more exposed to the elements, particularly swell.  If you have any reservations or hesitations about what it’s like onboard a liveaboard, please get in touch with us and or read this blog about what you can expect for a liveaboard itinerary such as this.

22nd April 2026 - Meet in Fiji

Upon arrival into Fiji’s Nadi Airport (NAN), you’ll meet a member of the hotel staff who will have your name on a placard and shuttle you to the hotel where you can check-in and relax before the group dinner that evening. This will be a great time for you to meet the Snorkel Venture group leader as well as the rest of the snorkeling group.

23rd April 2026 - Fly to Solomon Islands, Board the Bilikiki

After a big breakfast at the resort, we’ll check out and make our way back to the Nadi airport where we’ll catch our flight to the Solomon Islands, about three hours away. Upon arrival, we’ll be met by the Bilikiki team who will transfer us to the liveaboard.
After we board our home for the following twelve nights, we’ll receive a boat safety and orientation briefing, as well a snorkel briefing where we’ll discuss our intended route and what you can expect from this snorkeling safari.

Depending upon arrival time we’ll either enjoy a delicious lunch onboard or dinner following the briefings. This is a non-snorkeling day.

24 - 4th May 2026 Snorkeling from the Bilikiki

Each day begins with a big breakfast before starting a site briefing for our first snorkel session of the day. Each snorkel session will run for 60 – 90 minutes, depending on the site and the day’s snorkeling schedule. The Bilikiki will take us as close to the sites as possible but we will always board the 2 aluminum tender boats (known as “tinnies” in the Solomons) that will drop in the shallows. All the snorkel sessions have surface boat support, and you can jump on a tender and return to the boat if you prefer a shorter snorkel session.

After our first snorkel, we’ll jump back into the “tinnies” and head back to the Bilikiki for a fantastic lunch, a bit of downtime to digest, followed by another snorkel. We’ll then return to the main vessel for some snacks before heading out again for our third snorkel of the day.

Each day will run a little bit differently depending on where we are. On some days we’ll do three snorkels, while on a couple we’ll have the opportunity of a fourth night snorkel. There will also be opportunities to go ashore to visit the local villages.

On this particular tour, we intend to visit the Russel Islands, Mary Island, the Marovo Lagoon area, and finally the Florida Islands. The exact itinerary will be assembled upon arrival of the boat once things like sea and weather conditions have been evaluated. As this is a liveaboard safari, the itinerary is subject to change given the current and upcoming weather conditions.

5th May 2026 - Transfer back to Fiji

After a big breakfast onboard we’ll say our goodbyes to the lovely crew and transfer to the airport for our flight back to Fiji where we’ll check back into the Radisson Blu Fiji resort for our final group dinner of the trip.

Day 15 - Tour Ends

Catch your connecting flights back home or extend your time in Fiji.

Radisson Blu Resort Fiji

Radisson Blu Resort Fiji is spread across 10 acres of pristine beachfront on Denarau Island, 25 minutes drive from Nadi Airport, and is surrounded by climate-controlled lagoon-style swimming pools, and lush gardens. All the rooms have private balconies or courtyards with modern furnishings.

Bilikiki Liveaboard

In 1989 MV Bilikiki sailed as the first full-service luxury liveaboard vessel in the Solomon Islands. She is a large, stable, comfortable vessel with a crew that have a vast amount of experience throughout the region.

At 125 feet long and 24 feet wide, the MV Bilikiki comfortably accommodates 10 deluxe cabins, eight with a double bed and single bunk and two with twin single beds and no bunk (cabins #1 & 2). All cabins are air-conditioned and have their own en-suite bathrooms. There is a large sundeck, a comfortable lounge, a separate camera room, as well as a spacious dive deck.

Twin Bed Cabins

Meals are served buffet style in their covered open-air dining room. They will try to cater to any specific dietary requirements, but advance notice needs to be given as the Solomon Islands are remote and supplies may be limited on the islands.

Bilikiki Snorkeling Boats

The Bilikiki has two custom-built aluminum tender boats they call “tinnies” which will be our vehicle to the snorkleing sites each day from the main vessel. The boats have a rear ladder that folds down into the water with nice flat steps.
