Meet the Team

Ben – Co Founder 

Where have you been? I left the UK in 2002 and worked as a dive and snorkel guide for 10 years in various parts of Asia, Central America and Africa.

What do you do? I oversee the operations and manage our Snorkel for Good charity arm of the company – which raises funds for our conservation and sustainability partners.

Favorite Creature? Aside from my two children it has to be the characterful blenny. They are fairly common, be sure to look out on the reef top darting over hard corals. Their comical expression makes me smile.

Sarah – Co Founder

Where have you been? I started my career as a diving instructor in Belize in 2002 before meeting Ben in Malaysia in 2005. I worked in Australia, Fiji and many parts of Asia before helping set up the company.

What do you do? I like working with numbers, so pretty much anything that involves figures is my department. I also like to take exploratory tours when they are required!

Favorite Creature? Like a lot of people I’m a big fan of sea slugs and nudibranchs – the colours and variations are always a delight to see on the reef.

Bernita – Destination Specialist & Operations Manager

Where have you been? I’m from Cape Town, but I met Ben and Sarah at a dive school in Malaysia in 2005 and we traveled a lot together. After my dive instructor course I worked in Philippines & Indonesia for many years. More recently I have snorkeled Belize, Palau and loads of other exciting places.

What do you do? I love leading tours and exploring new potential destinations, if there’s a chance to explore a new area then my hand is always up! I’m the Operations Manager for the company.

Favorite Creature? Bobtail Squid, because it looks like it wants to have its cheeks pinched.

Alex – Destination Manager, Tour Leader & Videographer/Photographer

Where have you been? Traveling, snorkeling, and underwater film and photography are my passions. Since I’ve been in this line of work since 2009 I’ve had the opportunity to travel to all the places we offer snorkeling safaris to with Snorkel Venture plus quite a few other places!

What do you do? I lead a lot of the tours and pretty much all the photography and video work on the site is my own. I also run photo workshops, write blogs, newsletters, and maintain the website. Basically, if there’s writing or photos/video involved there’s a good chance it’s from me.

Favourite Creature? Mimic Octopus – they are very smart and can adapt to look like lots of other marine life. They always put on a good show in the water.

Kelly – Tour Consultant

Where have you been? I love travelling and experiencing new cultures & places, so having taken 2 career breaks and more holidays than I can count, I’ve seen a fair amount!  I spent 9 months backpacking around Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand and then another year through Central & South America, with a boat trip in the Galapagos an absolute highlight.

What do you do? I’m a Tour Consultant so I handle the booking and logistics for several tours and help clients find the right destinations and trips for them.

Favorite creature?I love turtles and seahorses, and really just anything that’s a little bit strange & colourful.

Graham – Destination Specialist & Assistant Tour Leader

Where have you been? Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu, Malta, Hawaii, Gili Islands, Spain, UK, Egypt, and French Polynesia

What do you do? I’m a Destination Specialist which means I spent a lot of time helping guests choose the right tour for them. I also get to check out new destinations to make sure they are right for our clients. Also, several times a year I am fortunate enough to lead tours to any one of our many destinations.

Favorite Creature? Mantis shrimp, octopus, and cuttlefish. Too tough to choose just one!

Lydia – Resident Marine Biologist, Snorkel For Good Coordinator and Tour Leader

Where have you been?

I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for an endless summer — I tend to chase the sun wherever it shines. Most recently, I spent five years living and working in Australia, from Far North Queensland, where I worked with corals on the Great Barrier Reef, to Western Australia, where I worked on the Ningaloo Reef, snorkeling with humpbacks and whale sharks.

What do you do?

My background is in Marine biology and Conservation. Through working as a dive and snorkel guide, I found my passion lies in marine education. My role at Snorkel Venture is to coordinate our Snorkel For Good program, write content for the magazine and website, and I will be on tour with you all!

Favorite creature?

I once saw a cuttlefish laying eggs in a coral, and since then, they have been at the top of my list. It was mesmerizing. Also, a big shout-out to humpback whales!

Marcus – Tour Leader

Where have you been? I was a dive and snorkel guide in South East Asia for several years and spent the last 5 living and working in Komodo. I have been lucky enough to dive and snorkel in many places around world. I currently live in Thailand.

What do you do? Spend as much time in the water as possible! I’m an underwater photography enthusiast, so I usually have a camera in my hand. I also love showing people new marine creatures.

Favourite Creature? Of course I love all the usual suspects- mantas, sharks and turtles. But the one that really steals the show for me is the Leafy Sea Dragon.

Paul ‘Duxy’ – Tour Leader & Photo Pro

Where have you been? I was a dive guide in Egypt for many years and have worked for many different travel companies, leading tours all over the world.

What do you do? Lead as many tours as possible. I’m also a photo specialist and love helping people with their cameras, especially people who are just getting to grips with them. Meeting new people is something I really love about being on tour.

Favourite Creature? Somehow incredibly ugly and beautiful at the same time – the glorious Frogfish.

Dalton – Tour Leader

Where have you been? I love to travel and have been doing so all my life. I have settled in Asia over the last 12 years and you will likely find me in Thailand, Malaysia, or Indonesia.

What do you do? I’m a tour leader and love everything about the underwater world. I lead as many tours as possible as it’s the best feeling to introduce people to the life beneath the waves.

Favorite creature? I love the big stuff, but hands down my favorite creature has got to be the porcupine pufferfish. Just so much personality and they remember you if you meet them regularly.

Asha – Tour Leader

Where have you been? I was born in Malaysia and I have traveled extensively in Asia. My favorite places have got to be Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Recently I have been to Komodo, Alor, Wakatobi, and Misool but I find it hard to choose a favorite.

What do you do?  I’m a full-time yoga instructor and I have been an underwater guide for the last 7 years.

Favorite creature?  I love the cute stuff like eagle rays, turtles and box fish – all the things with cute faces.

Amy – Tour Leader

Where have you been?
After spending several years as a dive instructor, I’ve been lucky enough to explore some of the planet’s most incredible marine ecosystems. I love any kind of adventure and base most of my trips around photography and exploring the most remote corners of the world—whether it’s snorkeling, diving, motorcycling, or riding horses!

What do you do?
These days, I’m passionate about guiding and sharing my love for nature, above or below the water. You’ll often find me pointing out hidden gems underwater or snapping photos of marine life. Storytelling is my thing—whether it’s through photography or helping guests discover the magic beneath the surface.

Favorite Creature?
Tough choice, but I have a soft spot for octopuses—they’re so smart and endlessly fascinating. And sea otters—they’re adorable, playful, and always make me smile!

Luca – Leader Tour Leader

Where have you been?
For the past 15 years I’ve mostly been based in Southeast Asia, living between Thailand and Indonesia, with some time spent in Mexico and the Caribbean. Around 10 of those years were dedicated to working as a dive and snorkel guide, which allowed me to explore many different parts of the world and spend most of my time in the ocean.

What do you do?
I work remotely, collaborating with startups, which gives me the flexibility to stay close to what I enjoy most: being in the water. Surfing is a big part of my life, along with photography and outdoor activities. I’m also passionate about observing marine life and sharing that curiosity with others.

Favorite Creature?
Mantas, without a doubt: their elegance, calm presence, and the sense of peace they bring underwater are truly special. That said, I’m fascinated by all marine life, especially the smaller critters and their unique behaviors.

Emma – Freediving Instructor & Tour Leader

Where have you been? My first experience of a coral reef was over thirty years ago in Indonesia, and it completely blew my mind. Since then I’ve dived and taught freediving in many parts of the world, including Egypt, the Mediterranean, the UK, the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, and the Maldives. Indonesia still holds a very special place in my heart though, as the reefs are extraordinary and the people are some of the warmest you’ll ever meet.

What do you do? I’m a tour leader and the freediving specialist at Snorkel Venture, bringing nearly three decades of instructing experience to our Shallow-Water Freediving Workshops in Belize and Indonesia. I’m also a breathing coach and yoga teacher, and I love helping guests feel more relaxed, confident and comfortable in the water. It’s always a joy to see someone discover a whole new way to experience the reef.

Favorite Creature? This is a tough question because I’m fascinated by everything underwater! For small creatures, it’s a tie between the juvenile spotted drum as it’s so beautiful and a treat to find if you’re looking into crevices, and the juvenile yellowtail damselfish, whose bright blue spots seem to glow like tiny lights. For larger animals, I have to say spinner dolphins. They’re incredibly playful and often just as curious about us as we are about them.

Molly (Alex’s Mom) – Distribution Manager

Where Have You Been?

One of my sons, Alex, has lived and worked in Thailand and Indonesia, so I learned to dive and snorkel to take some of the most amazing trips. I’ll never forget the surprise of simply going underwater and seeing all the life happening before you. I’ve been lucky to snorkel around the Caribbean, Thailand, Komodo, Bali, Bangka Island, and Cenderawasih Bay.

What Do You Do?

I am in charge of distributing all the Snorkel Venture merchandise, which raises money for Snorkel for Good. The rest of the time, I’m a retired teacher, hiker & mountain biker.

Favorite Creature?

It’s hard to choose a favorite with so many wonderful creatures out there, but I’d have to choose nudibranchs. They are intriguing and amazing in how many kinds of colors, shapes, and sizes there are. They look like a creature an artist would design.
