Join us as we explore the amazing reefs of Raja Ampat by a luxury wooden Liveaboard built in the traditional Indonesian ‘phinisi’ style. Raja Ampat is comprised of a vast network of over six hundred islands, and the best way to experience the whole area – from the north’s Dampier Strait to Misool in the south – is by a liveaboard.

From Sorong we will head south towards Misool. Misool’s small limestone islands with their unique mushroom shape are a paradise for the colorful soft corals. The abundance of stunning snorkeling sites and the natural beauty of limestone-jungle-clad islands means we will have no shortage of places to explore and fish to gawk at. We will then slowly head north to the Dampier Strait for the last part of the tour.

Raja Ampat’s northern region, known as the Dampier Strait,  has so much to offer – with spectacular soft corals swaying in the water and sea fan forests that have to be seen to be believed. For the duration of the trip, we can expect several species of reef sharks as well as wobbegong (carpet) sharks, and Epaulette (walking) sharks. We hope to see oceanic and reef manta rays as they come to be cleaned and feed on the plankton on the surface. Turtles (green and hawksbill) abound too, along with schooling fish like jacks, barracuda, and all the brightly colored reef fish like various species of butterfly, angel, trigger, parrot, sweetlips, surgeonfish, and more.

This snorkeling safari is escorted by a Snorkel Venture team member.

Day 1 - Arrive in Jakarta

Arrive into Jakarta International Airport (CGK) and check into our Jakarta hotel where you can check-in and relax until the group meets for a late-night check in for the flight to Sorong.

Day 2 - Jakarta to Sorong, Board the Coralia

Fly Jakarta to Sorong. The Coralia crew will be there to greet us and take us by car to the harbor for boarding. After our welcome, orientation and safety briefings, we will be shown to our cabins so that we can settle in before our evening meal.

Day 2 - 10 - Onboard The Coralia

Each day begins with a “small” breakfast before starting a site briefing for our first snorkel session of the day. Each snorkel session will run for 60 – 75 minutes. The Coralia will take us as close to the sites as possible, sometimes we will board the 2 fiberglass 8m dinghy boats and get dropped in the shallows. All the snorkel sessions have surface boat support, and you can jump on a tender and return to the boat if you prefer a shorter snorkel session.
There will also be local guides and your tour leader in the water on all snorkels, pointing out interesting things to see and assisting with whatever you may need. They will also enter the water to do a current check and decide if our plan should be altered slightly or if we will snorkel in that spot. If there is current, we will always move with it, never fighting against the water. The dinghies can always pick us up down current at the end of the snorkel.

After our snorkel we will return to our boat and dry off. There will be dry towels waiting on the dive deck for us. A full hot breakfast will then be served. After breakfast we hit the water again for another snorkel session on a nearby site. We return to the main boat for a delicious lunch (either served buffet style or plated, usually 2 courses). After a little break to allow our food to digest, we prepare for the third snorkel session of the day. Afterwards, there is usually a snack and hot beverage served (you will not go hungry on this cruise!), before we enter the water for a later afternoon or evening snorkel, depending on the conditions and sites in the vicinity. Dinner is a 3  course meal, mostly a la carte. One evening we will have a big barbecue. There will always be additional snacks such as cookies and a fruit bowl throughout the day.
Evenings are spent looking through fish ID books, reviewing the days photos and sightings, chatting in the spacious lounge or enjoying the night sky from the deck. Water, coffee, tea and soft drinks are complimentary aboard Coralia. This is also a selection of beer, wines and spirits available for purchase.
We will offer 3 – 4 snorkel sessions a day. You are not obliged to participate in them all.
Large school of fish over coral reef
We will offer night snorkeling when suitable. The reef completely transforms at night, when many fish creep into crevices and sleep, while others come out to hunt. This is the best item to see the walking sharks, octopus out and about, squids hunting in small squads, corals feeding, eels and rays hunting etc.
On some days we might have a little land excursion visiting a nice viewpoint or another point of interest.
All this from the beautiful and comfortable Coralia, while eating great food and relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Day 11 - Final day of snorkeling

Final day of snorkeling with 2 scheduled snorkel sessions- before sailing back towards Sorong. We spend the night onboard.

The tour ends upon arrival in Jakarta where we bid farewell to our new friends.
Please speak to a member of our team if you would like to extend your time in Indonesia, either for more snorkelling or land tours.

With Coralia’s length of 48 metres, her decks are spacious and offer plenty of spots to enjoy the view, dine, sunbathe or simply relax.  The sun deck is at the very top and the airy main and upper decks feature each an outdoor dining and a leisure area with plenty of cozy sofas and loungers.

If you prefer to cool down a bit, you can do so in the air-conditioned lounge and restaurant on the main deck. There is a spa on the top deck for massages too! There is free WiFi for our guests on board, depending on the local cell phone reception. Please do not rely on being able to get online during this trip. If we have signal it is likely to be slow and spotty.
