Join us to snorkel Komodo and the surrounding islands on this beautiful and brand new liveaboard, Naga Biru. We’ll spend time in the Komodo National Park. Here we’ll enjoy the fantastic reefs and interacting with the prolific marine life that the area is famous for. We’ll also explore the area beyond the park boundaries, where the marine life is as abundant and the reefs as robust. We’ll visit a semi-active volcano with reefs that effervesce with volcanic bubbles. Then we go to Saleh Bay to see the whale sharks! This snorkel liveaboard itinerary offers opportunities to see spectacular reefs, fish and critters large and small, and whale sharks.

We’ll be covering a lot of territory and visiting locations not otherwise accessible from a resort. This is why we’ve chartered the lovely Naga Biru liveaboard exclusively for our group. Naga Biru will be our floating home for the duration of this tour. Thus we can snorkel Komodo, indulging in the exhilarating experiences of exploring seldom-visited reefs, while enjoying all the luxuries and amenities of a comfortable resort.

Because so few snorkelers and divers visit this isolated region, the reefs are still in absolutely stunning condition! You can expect to experience a vast array of types of reefs, each with its own unique blend of marine life that inhabits them. From the snorkel liveaboard, it’s not uncommon to see cuttlefish, octopus, various species of crab and shrimp, nudibranchs, manta rays, several species of turtles, scorpion fish in all shapes sizes, and colors, sea snakes, whale sharks, and so much more. This trip really offers it all!

*Please note that this particular itinerary covers a lot of territory and, therefore, involves multiple overnight crossings between regions. You will be in the open sea and more exposed to the elements, particularly swell. Please note that there are two itineraries for this tour. If we board the Naga Biru in Labuan Bajo, the itinerary will be as stated below. If we board the Naga Biru in Bali, the itinerary will be reversed.

Day 1 - Meet the group in Bali

On arrival in Bali (DPS) you will check into the Bali hotel and relax. That evening, there will be a group dinner where you can meet your fellow snorkelers and the Snorkel Venture group leader. We will spend the night here.

Day 2 - Arrive in Labuan Bajo

After breakfast, we check-in for our flight to Labuan Bajo. On arrival, we’ll be met by a member of the Naga Biru team who will drive us a short distance to the port. We’ll board the vessel, unpack, and relax before a full boat briefing and an overview of the following day’s itinerary. Time depending, we may be able to enjoy an afternoon snorkel around one of the nearby islands.

Day 3 - 13 - Snorkeling from Naga Biru

Each day starts with a “light” breakfast before starting a site briefing for our first snorkel session. Each snorkel session will run for 60 – 90 minutes. From Naga Biru, we’ll board the smaller zodiac boats so we can be safely dropped in the shallows. All the snorkel sessions have surface support too, and you can jump on a tender and return to the main vessel if you prefer a shorter snorkel session. After our morning snorkel, we will return to our boat and dry off. There will be dry towels waiting on the dive deck for us. Additionally, a full hot breakfast will then be served.

After our second breakfast, we hit the water again for another snorkel session on a nearby site. We return to the main boat for a delicious buffet lunch, usually 2 – 3 courses. Then, after a little break to allow our food to digest, we prepare for the third snorkel session of the day. Afterwards, snacks and beverages are served (you will not go hungry on this cruise!). Depending on the day we may additionally offer a fourth snorkel, which will be a night or sunset snorkel.

We intend to offer 3 snorkel sessions a day along with several night snorkels, as conditions allow. You are not obliged to participate in them all. Instead, you may prefer to relax onboard!

We do have a rough itinerary which we intend to stick to. Being on a liveaboard affords us the luxury of being able to be flexible with things, particularly when weather or sea conditions are unfavorable. Then, we may make adjustments to the schedule so that we are always snorkeling in the best spots at the best possible times for not only weather but marine life sightings. Highlights on this tour should include snorkeling with mantas, floating over reefs bubbling from the volcanic activity below, thousands of flying foxes taking to the sky at sunset, endless stunning coral reefs, dinners on the beach under the stars, trekking with the Komodo dragons, and very good chances of being able to snorkel with whale sharks!

This tour does include a stop in Saleh Bay off the north coast of Sumbawa, where we will seek out the bagans, the traditional Indonesian fishing platforms that attract whale sharks from the baitfish that they attract. As this location is a short flight from Bali, it has become quite a popular destination for people to come and swim with whale sharks. Depending on the day, there can be a number of other people in the water with us. Given that we’re on a liveaboard, and not on a day boat, which has more time constraints, we can be flexible with the times that we jump in the water, in an attempt to avoid other groups. The cruise director of the liveaboard and your Snorkel Venture guide will do their best to get you in with the whale sharks for the best possible encounters.

Day 14- transfer to Bali, tour ends

On our final morning, we’ll enjoy a final breakfast onboard. Thereafter, we say farewell to our lovely Naga Biru crew and transfer to the hotel in Bali where to tour ends. A night in the hotel is included with breakfast.

Note the tour date 9 – 23 October starts and ends in Bali but the group will board the Naga Biru in Bali and sail to Labuan Bajo where you will disembark and fly back to Bali, and enjoy the final night in the hotel there.

The Naga Biru

Naga Biru is a 35 meter wooden liveaboard purpose-built for snorkeling and diving. She comfortably holds 12 guests in her elegantly designed cabins that can accommodate a variety of sleeping arrangements. The vessel is equipped with a central lounge area where you can relax on the wrap-around sofa and enjoy delicious meals around the large dining table. The Naga Biru also offers plenty of outdoor space to take in all the sights from the comfortable lounging areas and bar. For those traveling with cameras, the boat offers a dedicated camera room to organize and store your camera gear in between snorkels.

With four distinct cabin types, Naga Biru Liveaboard ensures every guest finds their ideal space. Each cabin is very spacious and equipped with essential comforts, including ensuite bathrooms, USB charging ports, and high-quality amenities like soft towels and premium toiletries.

Vessel Guide

We will be reaching most of the snorkeling sites via a tender boat, there is a ladder and the Naga Biru crew are on hand to assist with water entry and exit. Therefore, a certain level of fitness is required to climb the ladder – if you have any questions on this you can contact us here.
