Join us on this extraordinary snorkel safari to Raja Ampat. We'll spend 7 nights based at the stunning Papua Explorers Resort, located in the heart of the Raja Ampat archipelago. Within just a few minutes of the resort are a range of snorkeling sites which play host to some of the most diverse marine habitats found anywhere on the planet. Expect truly pristine coral gardens packed with hard and soft corals in just a few meters of water, masses of fish life and good chances of bigger fish such as manta rays, reef sharks and schools of barracuda and jacks.
This tour is accompanied by 2 Snorkel Venture guides and is exclusively for snorkelers.
Raja Ampat is a group of islands in the north eastern corner of Indonesia. It's name comes from a local myth known as “The Four Kings”. These 4 kings are island groupings called Misool, Salwati, Waigeo, and Batanta which as a collective comprise over 1,500 minor islands. The range, diversity and abundance of reefs found here is truly staggering.
Topside the scenery is breathtaking - limestone outcrops drenched in dense tropical rain forest, white sand beaches shaded by palm trees all set among turquoise waters. This is snorkeling paradise.
Beneath the surface swarms of small fish such as damsels, fusiliers and anthias mill about on the reef flats, while not too far away the large schools of tuna, trevally and mackerel congregate. Batfish, surgeonfish and barracuda aggregate around jettys and reef points, while angel and butterflyfish decorate both the reef flats and jagged coral towers that are home to abundant marine life. Expect fields of soft corals like you've never seen them before, hard coral reefs are healthy and abundant as well.
Papua Explorers Resort is located on the edge of the Dampier Strait, in the central region of the national park. Here nutrient rich water flow, attracting an abundance of marine life large and small. We'll spend our days snorkeling a variety of habitats from shallow fringing reefs to sea mounts, walls and manta cleaning stations. With sites in such close proximity we can comfortably offer 3 -4 snorkeling sessions per day with the added option of a fabulous house reef with easy access.
This is the pinnacle of marine life diversity within the Coral Triangle. At its most recent count in 2011 the region of Raja Ampat was recognized to contain 1427 reef fishes, over 600 coral species (75% of the world’s coral species can be found here), not to mention the pelagic life that is abundant in the area.
