Journey with us on board the beautiful Amira Liveaboard to the reefs of Misool in southern Raja Ampat. This 11 night snorkeling safari has been created exclusively for snorkelers – meaning no pesky divers onboard. The real beauty of snorkeling Raja Ampat via liveaboard is that we'll we'll have the freedom to travel where we choose, and you can be sure that we'll be heading to the remote regions of the Raja Ampat archipelago to snorkel over secluded reefs packed with marine life. Raja Ampat is a massive area and really the only way to see the whole area, from north's Dampier Straight to Misool in the south, is to explore it via an iconic wooden sailing yacht built in the local Indonesian style known as a phinisi liveaboard.
The area we will explore can have some strong currents, which bring in the nutrient rich water that helps keep the reef alive and healthy. Our local guides know the area very well and will select protected sites, or appropriate times to enter the water to avoid being in current. If we are ever in a current, we will always float with the water and not try to swim against it. One needs to be comfortable in the water with some upper body strength to climb back up the ladder onto the boat.
This snorkeling safari is escorted by a Snorkel Venture team members.
This group tour is exclusively for snorkelers. All trips are accompanied by at least one Snorkel Venture guide as well as local guides who are all well versed in the marine life and the reefs. Staff are available to help with water entry and exits, and all snorkel sessions have boat surface support to ensure our safety.
Raja Ampat is a group of islands in the north eastern corner of Indonesia. It's name comes from a local myth known as “The Four Kings”. These 4 kings are island groupings called Misool, Salawati, Waigeo, and Batanta which as a collective comprise over 1,500 minor islands. The range, diversity and abundance of reefs found here is truly staggering and the only way to explore the entire region from north to south is by liveaboard.
Our route onboard Amira Liveaboard will concentrate on the more remote regions of southern Raja Ampat known as Misool. On offer here is a vast range of snorkeling sites from coral covered walls, reef flats, pinnacles and placid lagoons which all play host to a wealth of marine life. Fields of gorgonian fans can be seen in the shallows as they grow up the island walls, whilst colorful hard coral gardens rise to the surface - this really is some of the finest reef snorkeling you are likely to see anywhere in the world. Not only this - the reefs here are in superb condition. Expect fish life in abundance, from colorful reef dwelling species to larger pelagic species like schooling batfish and barracuda. Manta's are frequently seen feeding on the surface and hovering above their favorite cleaning station, and it's not uncommon to see whales passing by from the liveaboard at certain times of the year.
Raja Ampat is a massive area and there is really no way to explore each of the fifteen-hundred islands in eleven days, let alone a year, so the best way to experience Raja Ampat from a much broader perspective and to become familiar with the nuances of it's iconic regions is to do so by cruising through this fabled archipelago on a sleek and elegant sailboat built to the highest standards.
Site selection will be tailored specifically to snorkelers.
