Join us on this incredible snorkeling safari featuring two of Indonesia’s best destinations for big fish and beautiful reefs – Komodo and Misool in Raja Ampat!

hard coral reef with manta swimming through blue water

Komodo is one of the premier snorkeling regions of Indonesia and we’ll be based at the beautiful Komodo Resort for the first leg of this tour. This resort is situated on its own private island complete with hiking trails, a spa, gym, decadent meals, and an outstanding house reef. Better yet, the resort is on the door steps to the boundary of the national park where we will encounter turtles, reef sharks, cephalopods, and almost certainly giant manta rays!

Misool is the southernmost set of islands in Raja Ampat, and is truly a paradise brimming with pristine coral reefs and more exotic marine species than you possibly count in a single trip. Misool Resort is the only resort in this entire – largely uninhabited – area and yet the comfort and style of this resort is second to none. Because of the amazing conservation efforts taken on by the resort, the surrounding waters are densely populated with sharks, rays, and swarms of fish big and small.

20th May 2024 - Arrive to Bali

Upon arrival into Bali International Airport (DPS), you check into the Novotel Airport Hotel and relax and recover from the long journey. There will be a group dinner to welcome and introduce everyone.

21st May 2024 - Transfer to Komodo Resort

After a buffet breakfast, check out, and go to the departures hall and check in for your flight to Labuan Bajo.

Upon landing there, you will be met by a member of the Komodo Resort team and transfer by car (10 minutes) and then by boat (75 minutes) the the stunning secluded island of Sebayur. Here you will be shown to your luxurious beachfront bungalows, before an orientation and group meal.

21st - 28th May - Snorkeling from Komodo Resort

Our time at Komodo Resort will be spent as follows:

After breakfast we will make our way to the boat for the morning snorkel session. You will typically have two morning snorkels with each in-water snorkeling session lasting around 60-90 minutes. The snorkels will be guided by local snorkel guides and your Snorkel Venture tour leader who will point out interesting things while in the water. We will have a site briefing before each session.

Each day will run a little differently depending on where we are going for the snorkels. On some days we will go for the two-morning snorkels and return to the resort for lunch. On other days we will have lunch on board the boat so we can explore a bit further into the marine park before returning to the resort. The house reef is always open and arguably one of the best reefs in the area, so on some days we will do the afternoon session on the house reef.

Of course, you are always welcome to snorkel the house reef at your leisure. It can be accessed off the pier or the beach at high tide. There is always a lookout person watching out in case of any problems. If you should get stuck in a current they will send a small tender boat to pick you up. If the current is running fast, they can drop you off a ways away from the resort and you can drift slowly back towards the pier to exit the water on one of the wooden ladders.

One morning, after breakfast we will travel by boat for about 90 minutes to the island of Komodo. This island is one of the few that still has a population of wild Komodo dragons. Once we arrive, we get off the boat and take a short walk with a local park ranger to the watering hole and beyond. Here one usually sees quite a number of dragons lazing around. On this hour-long trek around Komodo it’s very likely we’ll encounter deer, buffalo, wild boar, and various species of birds. There are some small curious shops near the ranger station as well for some local souvenirs.

Upon return to the boat, we can change into your snorkel wear, as the group will have the opportunity to snorkel two sites on the way back to the resort. On this day, lunch is served on the boat.

Tide and weather dependent, we may have the option of an evening/night snorkel on the house reef, which is a lovely treat as the reef completely transforms after dusk. All the nocturnal creatures come out to feed, crabs, eels, rays, cuttlefish, squid, octopus etc.

28th May - Transfer to Jakarta & Sorong

After a big breakfast at the resort we’ll board our boat back to Labuan Bajo and catch our flight to Jakarta. We have a late-night flight on this day, so to make things more comfortable we’ll check into the airport hotel and relax for the remainder of the day before boarding our flight to Sorong.

29th May - Arrive to Misool Resort

Upon arrival into Sorong, we will be met by Misool staff and transferred to the pier where we will board our boat to Misool. The boat ride can take 4 hours, but we have a big beautiful boat, food, a large restroom, and plenty of indoor and outdoor space on the boat. The beauty of this region is breathtaking above and below the water, so this transfer provides a great opportunity to see the beautiful islands jutting out from the bright blue waters.

Upon arrival at the resort, we will check in to our bungalows, have lunch and an orientation, and then a snorkel on the house reef before dinner.

Meals at Misool are served in the beautiful indoor-outdoor restaurant set over the water, with stunning views of the North Lagoon.
Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style, while dinner is plated and served. Tea is served mid-afternoon when baked goods, savory and sweet are served. The resort has a hydroponics lab and grows much of the ingredients we will be eating. Other products are sourced from nearby local villages.
Special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.

29th May - 5th June - Snorkeling from Misool Resort

Our days here will start with a delicious breakfast followed by a morning snorkel trip on the boat. Most of the snorkel sites are between 10 and 15 minutes from the resort. We will then return back to the resort for lunch and a little downtime or house reef snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding if you just can’t get enough of the water! Each snorkel session will last around 60 – 90 minutes. We will always have boat support so you can take a break back on the boat if you wish. Local snorkel guides will be with us in the water and available to point out interesting creatures we may encounter.
On past trips to Misool the guests couldn’t get enough of the house reef. While the snorkeling in the Misool area is mid-blowing, the beauty of the house reef is that it’s so large, it’s feels like many sites in one and has so much to offer, from reef sharks, big groupers, tons of turtles, bumphead parrot fish, schooling reef fish and beautiful corals, all with the added convenience of being just a few steps away.
A late afternoon tea is served every day which is then followed by a big dinner.

5th June - Transfer to Sorong & Bali

On our final day at Misool Resort, we will start with a big breakfast followed by our transfer to Sorong where we’ll check in to the Swissbel Hotel in anticipation of our flight back to Bali the following morning where the tour will end on the 6th June 2024.
