Located 60 miles south of Cuba is the Jardines De La Reina (Gardens of the Queen) National Park. Encompassing a chain of 250 pristine coral and mangrove islands it's widely considered to offer the healthiest reefs found anywhere in the Caribbean alongside abundant populations of shark species.
Underwater topography ranges from fringing corals reefs to seagrass beds which play host to a diverse range of marine life from large pelagics to small colourful reef fish and critters. The vibrant reefs are characterized by fields of soft corals and Gorgonian fans. Marine life highlights include enormous huge Goliath Grouper, schooling snapper and beautiful angelfish. We should encounter sharks during the safari as well as eagle rays and Hawksbill turtles.
Snorkeling in Cuba by liveaboard is an outstanding opportunity to experience the country at it's best.
May 26th 2020 – Arrive Havana (Optional)
Welcome and pick-up at Havana International Airport is between 10:45am – 3:30 pm, transfer to hotel, check in 4 pm and dinner at 7 pm with Cuban hosts to learn about Cuba’s marine conservation programs.
May 27th 2020 - Havana (Optional)
In the morning our trained, English-speaking guides, will meet us in the hotel lobby and take us out for a tour of the
Old Town. This will be done on foot as most of Old Havana is pedestrianised and it will take in the principal plazas and
colonial buildings and fortifications whilst hearing about the history of the city. After seeing the Old Town the group
will be collected by six restored Classic 1950s Old American Cars (Cadillacs, Pontiacs, Chevrolets, or similar) and taken
to see the rest of the city including the vast Plaza de la Revolucion and the former home of Ernest Hemingway which
is now a museum. There will also be a cruise along the famous panoramic seafront drive known as the Malecon, and
lunch will be provided in a typical Cuban restaurant (included in the cost).
The evening will be free at your leisure.
Overnight Hotel Inglaterra
May 28th 2020 – Havana – Cienfuegos - Trinidad (Optional)
This morning our private transportation will arrive with our local English-speaking guides to collect us for our departure
to the old colonial port city of Cienfuegos on Cuba’s south coast (adjacent to the Bay of Pigs). Cienfuegos has both
French and Spanish colonial architectural influences and is one of Cuba’s friendliest cities (many Cubans, if asked what
the nicest city in the country is, will answer Cienfuegos).
You’ll have a tour of the city on arrival before heading, after lunch, on to Trinidad – a highlight of any visit to Cuba as
any guidebook will confirm and which is about an hour further down the coast. On arrival you’ll have a tour of Trinidad
before having a free evening to eat at one of the many small restaurants in the town and perhaps then head out to
one of the live music venues in Trinidad.
Overnight Grand Hotel Iberostar
May 29th 2020 – Trinidad - Camaguey (Optional)
After breakfast, you’ll visit some more of the attractions in Trinidad and the surrounding area before heading towards
the city of Camaguey – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are two routes you can take to Camaguey, one via the
lovely small colonial city of Sancti Spiritus (which has a beautifully restored historic centre), the other via the city of
Santa Clara (where Che Guevara is buried and there is a huge mausoleum and museum about his life). The group can
decide which route they’d prefer and, if necessary one or two vehicles can take one route and the others the other
route. Either way you’ll arrive in Camaguey in the late afternoon.
Overnight Hotel Santa Maria
May 30th 2020 – Camaguey – Santa Cruz del Sur - Embarkation
This morning we’ll have a comprehensive tour of Camaguey including all the main plazas, several interesting churches
and the Cathedral, as well as the attractive local food market which is also in the historic centre of town.
After the tour, we will be collected by representatives from the Oceans of Youth project for our transportation to our
liveaboard and where we begin our snorkeling tour of the Jardines de la Reina. Lunch will be served on the yacht after arrival at approximate 3pm boarding.
