Join us on an epic snorkeling safari aboard a spacious and extraordinarily comfortable yacht complete with jacuzzi and self serve bar to Belize’s barrier reef, the second biggest barrier reef in the world! This reef, which starts just a few hundred yards off Belize’s coastline and runs for over five hundred miles along it, is where all of our snorkeling will take place. That being said we’ve selected two of the best atolls, Glovers and Terneffe, as the areas where we will concentrate our time.
The reefs themselves are truly fantastic with a mixture of hard corals and layers upon layers of sea fans that actually break the surface at times. The visibility can be crystal clear allowing us to see all the way down to where the reef slopes into a vertical wall dropping into the blue abyss. Marine life is an abundance with everything from lobster colonies to groups of spotted eagle rays and the odd nurse shark cruising over the reef.
This group tour is exclusively for snorkelers. All trips are accompanied by at least one Snorkel Venture guide as well as local guides who are all well versed in the marine life and the reefs. Staff are available to help with water entry and exits, and all snorkel sessions have boat surface support to ensure our safety.
The tour starts in Belize City where we will meet the Belize Aggressor III, our private yacht for the entire week. The ship is very spacious with cozy cabins, large indoor and outdoor dining areas, rooftop jacuzzi, self serve bar featuring local beer on tap, and plenty of space for storing and maintaining underwater camera gear as well as private snorkel lockers. Oh, and no shortage of amazing food!
For the duration of the trip you can expect two to four snorkel sessions every day on different reefs depending on that day’s itinerary. Everything is catered to us snorkelers, which will include a sturdy inflatable rib to transfer us from the “mother ship” to the shallow reefs, as well as snorkeling guides in the water who will be looking after us and showing us the hidden gems of the reefs. The final day of the trip there is an opportunity to explore a bit of the mainland with a guided tour of the Mayan Ruins followed by a fantastic dinner at one of the sea-view restaurants.
This is an exclusive snorkeling charter onboard Belize Aggressor III. On board we’ll cruise between Turneffe Atoll and Glovers Reefs on this tailored itinerary designed specifically for snorkelers.
You will be met upon arrival in Belize City and transferred to the Belize Aggressor III for 7 days of snorkeling adventure.
Snorkeling in Belize offers amazing opportunities - combining shallow reefs, walls, crevices and sandy bottoms dotted with coral bommies. The reefs are adorned with gorgonian fans, enormous sponges and healthy soft corals – providing a perfect backdrop for the myriad of marine life on offer in the Caribbean Sea.
We start our snorkeling adventure at Turneffe Atoll. Located 32km (20 miles) east of Belize City and surrounded by deep oceanic waters, it is considered the largest and most biologically diverse coral atoll in Belize. The land and seascape consist of a network of reef flats, creeks, and lagoons dotted by more than 150 mangrove islands and higher cayes. Large expanses of sea grass habitat the shallows providing important refuge for reef fish, critters and a variety of marine life.
The reefs are adorned with hard and soft corals in abundance – huge gorgonian fans and elephant ear sponges sway in gentle currents, fish life ranges from large groupers, tarpons, jacks and reef sharks to schools of colourful angel and butterfly fish.
From Turneffe we move south to Glovers Reef.
Glover's Reef is a partially submerged atoll located 45 KM off the southern coast of Belize. It forms part of the outermost boundary of the Belize Barrier Reef. This is the most southern of the three atolls, and arguably the best as it is known for excellent water clarity and wealth of marine life. The atoll is characterized by a dozen small cays of white sand, palm trees and great snorkeling spots. The reef was named after an 18th-century pirate who would maraud Spanish merchant ships.
Within 1.5 KM of the eastern edge of the atoll the reef wall descends some 2600 feet to the sea floor. It’s this combination of deep waters and shallow sheltered lagoons that invites the wealth and diversity of marine life that will be discovered during our time snorkeling the atoll.
On average you can expect 3 – 4 x 60 minute boat snorkeling sessions per day
