Join us on an amazing adventure to 3 of Indonesia’s premier snorkeling destinations. We will snorkel Alor, West Komodo, and Raja Ampat. This tour combines amazing reefs full of colorful marine life big and small, and three fantastic boutique resorts. Alor, West Komodo and Raja Ampat are undeniably the crème de la crème of snorkeling destinations. Not only do they offer breathtaking underwater beauty, these locations also have a wealth of vibrant marine life and crystal-clear waters.

At our first stop, Alor, we’ll be amazed by the sheer beauty of the marine life and reefscapes. In addition, we have good chances of encountering some of the ocean’s most iconic inhabitants. This includes a superpod of dolphins and melon head whales, giant ocean sunfish, and even blue whales as we move from between sites. We will snorkel Alor from the wonderful Alami Alor Resort, where we will have exclusive access to their house reef.
Afterwards, we move to the northeast coast of Sumbawa where we’ll snorkel four truly amazing and unique regions. We will snorkel West Komodo, Sangeang Volcano, Gili Banta, and Eastern Sumbawa. We’ll enjoy pristine hard and soft corals in abundance here, as few people visit these places. Here we will find busy fish life and good chances of turtles, larger rays, and reef sharks cruising around. We’ll also swim over bubbling black sands around Sangeang Volcano where hyper-rich reefs are unlike any of the others in the region.

Lastly, we will snorkel Raja Ampat from the fantastic Papua Explorers Resort. We’ll be located in the heart of the archipelago and therefore have access to a huge variety of snorkeling sites. They play host to some of the most diverse marine habitats found anywhere on the planet. Thus, we can expect pristine coral gardens with hard and soft corals that carpet the island slopes up to the surface. Moreover, masses of fish life explode from the reefs, with good chances of swimming next to bigger fish such as manta rays, reef sharks, and schools of barracuda and jacks. There are countless spectacular sites to snorkel Raja Ampat.

Marine Life Guide

This tour is partnered with Classroom Of Hope. Find out how we support Classroom Of Hope via this tour here.

Day 1 - Arrive in Jakarta
Arrive into Jakarta and Rest and relax. There will be a group dinner at the hotel’s restaurant where you’ll get to meet all the other members of the tour as well as your group leader. We will then check out for our early morning flight to Alor via Kupang. Upon arrival, we’ll be met by the Alami Alor staff and escorted via private cars to the resort.
Day 2 - Day 8 - Alami Alor Resort
We’ll spend 7 nights at the beautiful Alami Alor Resort. The first evening is dedicated to getting to know each other with resort orientation and safety briefings along the way. Rest and relax in the comfort of the lounge, check the fish books, and watch the sunset over neighboring islands. House reef snorkeling may be an option upon arrival depending on the time.

Our mornings at Alami Alor start with Western and Indonesian-style breakfasts. Fresh Indonesian coffee, fruit juice, and coconut water.
We’ll then head to the boats, a short walk along the jetty for the first snorkel session. Groups are split into 6 per boat with at least one guide per group, often 2. We start with easy sites – as little current as possible to allow for a gentle introduction. The time to reach the sites ranges from 10 – 30 minutes.
Each snorkel session will last between 60 and 90 minutes in the water with boat support if you prefer a shorter session. We will always head back to the resort for lunch with most guests taking a quick siesta following the delicious meal. For those who want to absorb every single moment of this amazing resort, you can relax on the verandah and watch the villagers pass by on their hand-dug canoes. In the afternoon we’ll head to another site for another incredible snorkeling session.

There’s the flexibility to snorkel the house reef at your leisure with a local crew on hand as a lookout. Likewise, we often do a sunset snorkel or night snorkel on the house reef as it’s an excellent spot for critters like nudibranchs and various crustaceans who come out in the evenings. Mandarin fish can also be seen mating in the shallows as the sunsets.

Day 9 - Travel to Bali
We will depart Alami in the morning and catch our flight to Bali via Kupang. Upon arrival in Bali, we will check in to our hotel. This is an essential overnight stop as there are no same-day connections between Alor and Bima/Kalimaya.
We’ll enjoy a nice lunch together as well as a group dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.
Day 10 - Travel to Kalimaya
We will depart from Bali in the morning for Bima. Upon arrival, we will be met by the Kalimaya Resort staff who will transport us to the resort about two hours away. We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch upon arrival and then settle into our rooms and the resort and prepare ourselves for the following days snorkeling sessions!

Day 11 - Day 15 - Kalimaya Resort
We’ll spend 6 nights at Kalimaya Resort. Days here will look something like this:
Wake up to a delicious a’la carte breakfast with all the trimmings.
We then make our way to their large boat for the morning snorkel session. Each snorkeling session will be guided by local guides and your Snorkel Venture tour leader who will point out interesting things in the water. We will have a site briefing before each session.

Depending on the sites we aim to explore that day, we will return to the resort for a two-course lunch served family-style in the open-air restaurant. We will then have the opportunity to jump back on the boat for the afternoon snorkeling session. Or, if you prefer to take it easy, you can just lounge at the resort, read by the pool, or explore the coastline on the paddleboards.
There may be a couple of days when we enjoy a picnic lunch either on the boats or on a deserted beach, as we explore sites further away. We’ll then return to the resort after our final snorkel of the day in the afternoon.

One morning, after breakfast we’ll travel by boat to the island of Komodo. This island is one of the few that still has a population of wild Komodo dragons. Here we usually see quite a number of dragons lazing in the sun and walking on the beach. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the dragons in their true natural habitat away from typical areas frequented by tourists.
Afterwards, we’ll have the opportunity to snorkel on the way back to the resort.

Dinners are a three-course affair which, like lunch, are served family style. Sumbawa is a very remote island and resources can be quite scarce, particularly when it comes to special diets. That said, they can accommodate most dietary requirements with proper notice. Please let us know if you have any special dietary needs and we will make sure that information is passed on to Kalimaya.
Day 16 - Transfer to Jakarta
After checking out of Kalimaya Resort, we will catch our flight to Jakarta where we’ll relax for the day. We’ll have a group lunch and dinner at the hotel’s restaurant before checking out for our late-night/early-morning flight to Sorong.
Day 17 - Arrival at Papua Explorers
Upon arrival in Sorong, we’ll be met by the team from Papua Explorers who will transfer us to a very nice hotel for a delicious breakfast buffet. We’ll then jump into the resort’s private speedboat for a two hour journey to the resort. We’ll check into our rooms, enjoy a delicious lunch, and then for those interested we’ll have a nice long snorkeling session on the resort’s house reef.

Day 18 - 23 - Snorkeling from Papua Explorers
Our mornings will start with a breakfast buffet, serving a variety of home-baked goods, fruits, hot foods, and juices. We then set off on the speed boats, accompanied by local guides, to snorkel Raja Ampat. We will visit two different snorkel sites during the course of the morning excursion, each session lasting anywhere from 60- 75 mins, before returning to the resort for lunch. We will have boat and surface support on all our snorkels, as well as in-water local guides to assist and point out interesting marine life.

After lunch, we will head out to another site for our third snorkel session of the day. The house reef is always open for us to snorkel at any time you should choose.
The house reef is accessed via the resort’s private pier which has an easy-to-climb ladder and platform on the water’s edge. This makes for a comfortable entry or exit. The house reef is pretty spectacular and usually ends up being one of the highlights of the trip. The reef just in front of the resort is home to juvenile blacktip reef sharks, schools of fish, vibrant corals, and loads of cool critters. The beauty of the house reef is that you can snorkel it any time you want.
The snorkeling accessible from the resort is highly varied and arguably some of the best in Raja Ampat. In this Dampier Straight region, we’ll find a multitude of beautiful coral reefs, each offering something different. Some may be situated around unique topography with shallow swim-throughs, while others may just extend for hundreds of meters in every direction. We also have great hances to see manta rays as there are certain bays and islands where they feed and clean at different times of the day. We will also take the opportunity to meander through the famous mangroves where the mangrove tree roots seem to be an extension of the coral reef below.

The marine life is just as diverse as the types of snorkeling sites. The shallow reef tops are a great place to enjoy the rhythmic pulse of the colorful reef fish and admire the determination of the hawkbill sea turtles as they forage for the sponges at the base of corals. In the blue we never know what we might find, but we can count on larger schools of jackfish, batfish, and the odd tornadoes of barracudas. On other sites, we might get lucky with some cleaning or feeding manta rays. This area has the highest species count of anywhere in the world so really, everywhere you look you’re bound to find something truly amazing.
Day 24 - Papua Explorers
We leave the resort on a morning boat transfer, in time to get our flight from Sorong to Jakarta where we bid farewell to our new friends. The tour ends here.
Alami Alor Resort
Alami Alor is an intimate resort situated on a remote and quiet bay that combines luxury accommodation and delicious locally inspired food.

Your bungalow sits on the waterfront. The bedroom is air-conditioned, and there is an open-air garden bathroom. There is plenty of outdoor seating, with hammocks and loungers.

Kalimaya Resort
Kalimaya Resort is built right on the edge of a beautiful white beach where the sand quickly merges with a stunning coral reef. The location is very strategic as we are able to comfortably access places like Sangeang Volcano, Gili Banta, and West Komodo.

We will be occupying the Beachfront rooms and Seaview rooms – all with en-suite bathrooms equipped with hot water and Air Conditioning. In each room, you’ll find a minibar with cold drinks, a coffee station, a desk, closet space, and lounge chairs on the private verandas that face the sea.

* Please note that Kalimaya does not serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring a liter of your choice
Papua Explorers Resort
The water bungalows blend traditional Papuan style with the comfort of modern design features. They are built using local, natural materials collected from the surrounding villages. All bungalows are equipped with en-suite toilets and showers, hot water, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, working desks, and a comfortable seating area and spacious veranda with direct access to the sea, allowing us to enjoy the sun and sea in privacy.

The Seaview Restaurant serves a variety of European and Indonesian cuisine on an elaborate buffet. Meals are prepared using homegrown veggies, and other locally sourced produce wherever possible.

Resort Guide

Snorkeling Boats
Alami Alor: Spacious fiberglass speedboats with enough room to easily store snorkeling equipment. The boats do not have a toilet on board but do offer a full canopy for sun protection and a ladder to help exit the water. Distances from the resort are short, maximum of thirty minutes.

Kalimaya Snorkel Boats: Depending on the day and location, we will either use the large wooden boat complete with a covered gear-up area and a partially covered sun deck, and bean bags to relax in. Or, we’ll use their fiberglass speedboat with a covered gear-up area and a sun deck. The average travel time from the resort to the sites is twenty minutes to an hour. Exit the water via ladders on the side of the boat.

Papua Explorers: Papua Explorers gives us a large fiberglass speedboat with a full canopy. It has plenty of room to store items that need to stay dry, like cameras. The boat has a large wooden ladder, but no toilet onboard
