With thanks to all of our Snorkel Venture guest who have traveled so far with us this year we have just made donations to Bite-Back Shark and Marine Conservation and Reef World Foundation. Both these charities form part of our Snorkel for Good Every Trip campaign where we donate 100 USD for every person who has traveled with us. Bite-Back has been a long time supporter of sharks, which due to overfishing, especially by industrial tuna fleets, has reduced populations of some shark species by around 70%.
More than 73 million sharks are killed annually – an average of 200,000 a day. Because of the negative role played by tuna fisheries, Bite-Back encourages its supporters to buy only tuna caught by pole and line and spread the word. The founder of Bite-Back Graham Buckingham’s response when we told him about this 8,000 USD contribution was:
‘WOW-WEE. This is huge. I can’t tell you how much of a lifeline this donation is. Thank you so much to every guest at Snorkel Venture who has helped make this contribution’
We also made a 12,000 USD donation to Reef World, a reef conservation charity. We had this response from their team:
‘Thank you so much for such a generous donation – it really is so very appreciated, especially now when fundraising is so challenging at the moment. It’s so reassuring to have long term supporters like you that we can rely on to help on a regular basis’ N. McClure.
‘Just to add my thanks and enormous gratitude to you and the rest of your team. As Naomi says, this is greatly appreciated during these times and will go a long way’ JJ.
Each donation just forms part of our total fundraising commitment of 65,000 USD for 2025 to our charity partners which also include Misool Foundation, Thrive Conservation and Manta Trust.
